The main plot follows two terminally ill men (portrayed by Nicholson and Freeman) on their road trip with a wish list of things to do before they “kick the bucket.” They had both being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

Tips on becoming a Language Polyglot.

The Polyglot Project

The Polyglot Project

Polyglot: Knowing, using and writing in more than one language. It is synonymous to being multilingual.

A polyglot is someone that speaks two or more languages. Different people have different reasons for being a polyglot or taking the polyglot journey.

It can be for entrepreneurial reasons,self-expression,adventure-seeking,to find a good job, exploring another culture (In my little exprience as a Language polyglot in the making, different countries and culture have their perspective towards language learning/ polyglotism.

For example, a country like benin republic has a strong affinity towards language polyglotism. From personal experience,a typical beninois speaks at least three languages: Faun, french and english while in their schools they usually have the option of learning a foreign language either english, spanish or german.

Being a language polyglot is a very daunting task like anything worthwhile;it is usually not easy from the start but with time it begins to become seamless.

My advice for anyone that ones to be a language polyglot is that you focus on the Ouput phase of language learning than the input phase. More on that in the next paragraph.

The Output Phase of Language learning is Speaking and Writing.

The Input Phase of Language Learning is Listening and Reading.

To be a Language Polyglot: Speak.Speak.Speak.Speak and thou shall not be silent. It is going to be awkward at the beginning with many mistakes but with time you would begin to speak.

I speak English,French and I am presently learning spanish.

The Polyglot Project 2015: To speak the six official languages(English.French.Spanish.Arabic.Russian.Chinese) of the United Nations on or before the 31st of December 2015.

Status Update
English: Maternal Language.

French: I speak french and have written the DELFB1 Exam and would be writing the DELF B2 Exam by March 2012.

Spanish: Learning spanish in the year 2012.

The OccupyNigeria Movement

The Protest in Nigeria

The Protest in Nigeria

Occupy Nigeria is a series of protests that began in Nigeria on Monday, 2 January 2012 in response to the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Objectives of the OccupyNigeria Movement

The protest aims to among other things:

First, force the Nigerian government to return to the status quo and cause petrol to be sold at the previous rate of 65 naira per litre.

The cost of maintaining public officials has skyrocketed over the past decade and this has to be stopped. The Nigerian President budgets N45 million for the purchase of kitchen and household equipment, while N293 million will be used for “refreshment”. The US president reportedly pays for most of his and his family’s dry-cleaning, meals and drinks. Barack Obama can only expect free meals at official dinners, especially when hosting foreign dignitaries. Nigerians will believe that government is merely taxing them to subsidise the life of ease and luxury of public officials.

Get the government to provide improved infrastructure, eradicate corruption and nepotism.

Get Nigerians to be more involved in the activities of their government.
Weaken (and possibly eliminate) the existing “power cabal”.

The protest started earlier january 2nd 2012 but the main rally and protested which was capped by the mother of all strikes in Nigeria started on the 9th of January 2011.

The January 9th 2012 nationwide strike led to the death/killing of a young nigerian by the Nigerian police in the Ogba area of Lagos. With several deaths recorded in other parts of the country from Maiduguri to kano.

Meanwhile, the federal government of all Nigeria have been busy using various mediums of making the people keep quite like we have done as a people for the past 4 Decades. From the NTA propagandist broadcast of pro-subsidy protesters to government agents and minister that try very hard to tell the whole world that tje protest is being exagerrated but the people are saying enough is enough.

I support the OccupyNigerian Movement,Do You?

OccupyNigeria

January 9, 2012 at 6:14 am | Posted in Nigeria | Leave a comment

The Occupy Nigeria Movement as being spreading like wild fire in the past one week, from the December 31st 2011 announcement by the Nigerian Government of the Removal fuel subsidy on PMS.
With rising unemployment rate, most Nigerians living on less than $2 a day(84%),insecurity,corruption,lack of infrastructural development, high crime rate and the more recent rising of the Boko Haram sect in the North of Nigeria; one could not but wonder why the government chose these particular time to announce the removal.

Nigerians,do not trust the government because of the past government with failed promises and corruption. The NLC/TUC and other Human right and civil organisations have chosen today ,09.01.2012 for the strike/protest which they tag as the mother of all strikes.

I could not sleep because of the looming crisis in this nation and the seeming cluelessness and disconnect between the government and the people. One could only hope that this leads us to our rightful place in the committee of nations.

Nigerians are tired but of them(us) have resigned to faith, which is rather sad but for me I take a stand against government waste, corruption, lack of vision and cluessness.

Enough is Enough.
Rage for Change.
Let’s Occupy Nigeria.

The Nigerian spring!

January 7, 2012 at 8:26 am | Posted in Nigerian Dream | Leave a comment

Are we about to witness the Nigerian spring?

Nigeria;the seventh most populous nation and sixth largest producer of crude oil in the world- A nation with growing unemployment rates, abject poverty, epileptic power supply, insecurity and high crime rate and corruption.

The Arab Spring otherwise known as the Arab Awakening, is a revolutionary wave of demonstrations and protests occurring in the Arab world that began on Saturday, 18 December 2010. To date, there have been revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt; a civil war in Libya resulting in the fall of its government; civil uprisings in Bahrain,Syria, and Yemen, the latter resulting in the resignation of the Yemeni prime minister; major protests in Algeria,Iraq,Jordan,Kuwait,Morocco, and Oman;and minor protests in Lebanon,Mauritania, Saudi Arabia,Sudan, and Western Sahara. Clashes at the borders of Israel in May 2011 and the Palestine 194 movement are also inspired by the regional Arab Spring.

The catalyst for the current escalation of protests was the self-immolation of Tunisian Mohamed Bouazizi. A college graduate, he was unable to find work and was selling fruit at a roadside stand until the police confiscated his wares and added a slap on the face. The next day (December 17) he doused himself with gasoline and set himself afire. His death on January 4 brought together various groups dissatisfied with the existing system, including many unemployed, political and human rights activists, labor, trade unionists, students, professors, lawyers, and others to begin the Tunisian Revolution. As the movement spread to other nations, these groups have become an unprecedented movement that has built sufficient momentum to engender the current scope of events.

Meanwhile in Nigeria, the Federal Government has announced the removal of fuel subsidy-which is the only benefit the Nigerian people get from the government.

The announcement on the 31st of December 2011 as sparked wild protest from the people through growing protest in the major cities of Nigeria like Lagos,Abuja,Kano,Kaduna,Gombe,Katsina,Bauchi and other cities. The protest as gone to the internet through social media, cyberware fare to major government sites.

In the cause of the protest,a Nigerian protester was killed by the Nigerian police in kwara while participating in a protest: MUYIDEEN MUSTAPHA OPOBIYI.

Meanwhile the Nigerian Labour Congress has threatened to go on a nationwide strike which will cripple the Nigerian Nation. The Nigerian present uprising has all the characteristics of the Arab spring.

Input: Reading and Listening.
Output: Writing and speaking.

The Nigerian French Language Village is a good place to work on the input side of language learning with a little bit of writing but if you really want to speak french,I will advice you to learn it in a francophone country.

After finishing my french course at the Nigerian French Language Village,I have since gone to some francophone countries to learn french.

The Fuel Subsidy Removal in Nigeria #OccupyNigeria

January 4, 2012 at 8:52 am | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

“Being a Nigerian is Abysmally fustrating and Unbelievably Exciting”- Professor Chinua Achebe

Everything that can go wrong has being going wrong in the Nigerian Nation in the past couple of days, weeks, months and years. From growing social inequality and injustice, epileptic power supply, diplapidated school,ASUU strike,Abject poverty,a growing network of unemployable youths, corruption and the latest to the twist of the Nigerian Quagmire: Boko Haram.

Tired of covering my Green Passport because of Corruption,419 and now we are now a terrorist state because of Boko Haram ,when abroad. My heart weeps for the over 70million Nigerian Youths with our sit down look attitude,we are a Generator Generation wit d various problems facing us,most of us will react more to BIS shutdown dan to fuel subsidy. It is not about Jonathan and his group of hardliners called advisers, and the cabals.

The federal government of Nigeria announced on the 31st of December the removal of fuel subsidy as a new year gift for Nigerians. Although, the intentions may be good the timing is not right. We have more pressing issues bothering us as a nation from Boko haram threat to youth unemplyment and poverty.

It is about us putting our destiny into our hands: Blame Nobody,Expect Nothing,Do Something.

This is a call to action for all Nigerian Youths to Do something in their own little way either by Blogging,Tweeting,Protesting-Just Do something to voice your anger,Enough is Enough. We need to take our rightful place in the committee of nations.

GOD Bless Nigeria!!

-

OUR DEMANDS THIS TIME…

(a) Electoral Reform:

We have an electoral system that allows the president appoint an INEC chairman in an election which the president has interests, that allows convicted criminals to contest for public office, amongst other such misnomers. It is appalling that our electoral system remains so warped and this seems to indicate that elections are primed to be rigged. To this end, we demand that the Uwais Panel Report on Electoral Reform be adopted as is, as they present the clearest path towards transparent and corruption-free elections.

(b) Corruption:

There are littered across the country, corruption cases involving key ministries – from power to petroleum – parastatals and those held in cahoots with members of Corporate Nigeria. Even worse, the EFCC has been fingered in some of these scandals. The Acting President already slated the Ministry of Agriculture (where the former minister has been accused of inflating contracts by up to N500million); the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation; and the Millennium Development Programme for probe. There is the National Poverty Eradication Programme, where billions of naira has reportedly been misappropriated. The government must show its seriousness in prosecuting these alleged corrupt practices and showing to Nigerians seriousness in solving the problem of graft.

(c) Security:

Nigerians are not safe. The carnage in Jos continues to be a source of worry for many Nigerians, and it continues to be a source of worry because it is proof that our government and its security agencies cannot protect the lives and properties of Nigerians. This is even more poignant because, even after the initial March crises, the intelligent agencies could not pre-empt and avoid the small pockets of deaths that followed. Add this to repeated kidnappings and assignations that continue to be unresolved and the problem is more acute. We therefore demand a complete overhaul of the country’s security apparatuses and that all the public officials who were responsible for the breakdown should be, as a matter of urgency, removed.

(d) Electricity:

6,000 megawatts will not solve the electricity problems of Nigeria, but they are a good start. And when the federal government promised it, Nigerians welcomed that start. Unfortunately, not only was this promise flagrantly broken, but there has as yet been no plan on how to redeem the process. Nigerians desperately and urgently need power for the industrial and production centers. Without that, it will be difficult for the engine of our economy to run efficiently. Without it, life has become near unbearable. We are extending our ultimatum to the federal government – until the end of April – for it to present this plan to the people. If not, we shall target the ministry of power specifically for protest. This promise is not to be taken lightly.
